Parnell Memorial Library Theatre is the home to the community theatre group Montevallo Main Street Players.
It is also used by the library for movie showings and special guest performances, as well as for summer reading programs. The stadium seating theater seats up to 142 guests.
Library Theater Rental
Use of the Library theater facility is subject to the rules and regulations established by the Montevallo Library Board.
The primary purpose of the Library theater is to provide space for library-sponsored programs and services, and such functions shall always have priority. Otherwise, priority for use of the Library theater will be given to City of Montevallo meetings and functions. The Library theater provides space when available for use by community groups and organizations whose goals are civic, educational or artistic only. Each application will be reviewed and evaluated individually. The Board may examine the group’s past history, goals and purposes for equitable use.
Priority for use of the theater will be given at the time of scheduling in the following order without rental fees:
City of Montevallo meetings and functions (require all contracts)
Montevallo Main Street Players (require all contracts)
Montevallo Elementary, Middle, and High Schools (require all contracts)
Montevallo Arts Council (require all contracts)
Groups with 501(c)3 non-profit status will receive priority review and consideration.
Use by other groups will be considered by the Montevallo Library Board at its regularly scheduled meetings on the second Tuesday of each month upon receipt of an application, written proposal, contract and deposit.
Groups or organizations using this meeting space may not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, or disabled status in the provision of services.
The library reserves the right to ask any group to leave its premises if the behavior of the group is deemed disruptive or inappropriate according to library policy.
Non-commercial groups will be charged $40 per hour for theater use. Commercial groups will be charged $60 per hour. A four-hour rehearsal per rental and one production technician (to handle the technical requirements of the event) will be included. Extra rehearsal time may be arranged at the hourly fee.
The Montevallo Library Board will determine if there is a need for additional presence of library production technicians, stagehands, and/or security as deemed necessary by the Library.
Groups will be charged a deposit of $300 which can be refunded under the following conditions:
If the Theater is found to be in satisfactory condition following the event.
If there is a cancellation prior to 14 days before the date of the event.
The deposit will be forfeited under the following conditions:
If, upon inspection by library staff, the facility is found to be in unsatisfactory condition. For an event held outside of regular hours, the closing personnel will walk through the facility with the renter to determine condition of the building for deposit refund. Unsatisfactory conditions include but are not limited to stains; damage to walls, stage floor, curtains, electrical equipment; remaining garbage/trash.
If there is a cancellation within 14 days of the event.
Deposit refund may be picked up at City Hall within 7-10 days following the event, providing there is no damage.
All groups renting the Theater are required to pay a $100 non-refundable facility fee.
Total charges for the event are due at City Hall two weeks prior to the date of the event. Receipt must be brought to Library.
As per City of Montevallo policy, there is a $35.00 fee for returned checks.
